Our Time of Need reflects my own experiences through this past year. As a college student—a music major at that—I often find myself overworked and overstressed. However, I have been able to find relief outside of the week away from school. I have been working as a church pianist for two and a half years now and I often find that though there is still the obligation to perform well and my own sense of pride in doing a good job, this weekly act of music-making is therapeutic to me. This piece seeks to give a sense of that relief, feeling the chaos and drudgery of daily life and eventually finding comfort and satisfaction in that spiritual connection before inevitably returning to the valley.
