Lucas Dahmm (b. 2001) is a composer, music educator, and multi-instrumentalist performer from Bloomington, IL. His musical influences stem from experiences playing trombone in various concert ensembles and working as a church pianist, additionally drawing from the musical styles of postminimalism and contemporary jazz. His music is written for a variety of chamber and concert ensembles and has been performed by the Unheard-of//Ensemble and the Illinois State University Wind Symphony. He is a proud member of the Millennium Composers Initiative.
At Illinois State University, he studied composition with Alex Stephenson, Carl Schimmel, Martha Horst and Roger Zare. He has performed in multiple ensembles in the Illinois State University School of Music, including the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Orchestra, and Civic Chorale. He graduated summa cum laude from ISU in May of 2024.
Outside of composing, he is an active performer and educator in central Illinois. He regularly performs at First Baptist Church in El Paso, IL and as part of the Heartland Jazz Orchestra; additionally he has performed with MIOpera and the Bloomington Normal Community Band. He teaches private trombone lessons at Carl’s Pro Band in Bloomington, IL, and has worked with the Community School for the Arts, the Pekin Community High School Instrumental Music program, the Chiddix Junior High School bands, and the El Paso-Gridley High School Marching Band.
